Our 18 ophthalmologists — including Board-certified specialists — span eight subspecialties, which means the cataract surgeon who identifies early glaucoma doesn’t send you across town — your glaucoma specialist is already down the hall.
That depth matters for patients with complex or overlapping conditions. A diabetic patient with retinal disease and developing cataracts sees a retinal specialist and a cataract surgeon who already share records, context, and a coordinated care plan. Nothing falls through the cracks because no one leaves the building.
It also matters for referring doctors. When you refer a patient to Uptown Eye, you’re referring into an ecosystem — not to an individual. If the consultation reveals needs beyond the original referral, the patient is already in the right place.

Our published study of 3,144 laser-assisted cataract cases — one of the largest single-centre datasets in Canada — guides how we counsel patients on surgical options. When we recommend a treatment approach, it’s grounded in outcomes we’ve measured ourselves.
Academic Teaching Faculty
Uptown Eye physicians hold faculty appointments at leading GTA universities and teaching hospitals including William Osler Health System, Toronto Western Hospital (UHN), Mount Sinai Hospital, and Humber River Hospital. Our surgeons have authored over 250+ peer-reviewed publications spanning cataract outcomes, glaucoma therapies, retinal treatments, and AI-assisted post-operative care. Dr. Somani’s PRECISE multi-centre study on diabetic macular edema has been presented at AAO, EURETINA, and ARVO.
